Where this book belongs
Volume 1 addresses the world’s challenges to biblical truth. Volume 2 brings doctrinal disputes within the church under Scripture. Volume 3 brings the same authority to the believer’s heart and conduct: the questions no one can settle merely by winning an argument.
The central question
Christians may defend sound doctrine and still struggle with fear, guilt, bitterness, doubt, and misplaced desire. Right answers matter, but they must also govern the person who gives them. Scripture does not ask believers to deny every feeling; it teaches them to test their feelings, judgments, and actions by God’s revealed Word.
This book examines the conscience, the promises and warnings of Scripture, the means God gives for growth, and the ordinary and extraordinary trials that reveal what we trust.
Selected chapters
Examining desires, inward judgments, and the authority by which they are tested.
Distinguishing the revealed Word from feelings, impressions, and claims to hear God’s voice.
The Spirit’s work in believers, perseverance in faith, and the difference between salvation and assurance.
How God uses His Word, prayer, the ordinances, and the church to sustain His people.
Trusting God through circumstances beyond our control and suffering we cannot fully explain.
Obedience after real injury and confidence in Christ when grief and mortality draw near.
From the introduction
I write as a layman who needs these truths as much as the reader does. What Scripture Says is not a claim that my conclusions are above examination. It is a commitment to bring every conclusion back to God’s Word. That commitment becomes harder when the thing being examined is not someone else’s doctrine or the surrounding culture but my own heart.
The question running through this volume is therefore simple, though its answer may be costly: Will Scripture govern when my own heart tells me something else?
